Current Practice Routine

I figured it would be interesting to see how my practice changes as I progress, so here's my typical routine for when I practice;

stretch & slowly dance

begin warming up at quicker pace

completely engage in dancing/stretching

jumping jacks

lunges

start slowly stretching/dancing with the hoop, while also including isolation type moves

waist hoop for an entire song in prayer position with eyes closed [both…

100 hours of practice.

So I'm going to teach two workshops at a flow festival coming up. What the lump indeed. I know that I've been spinning for a long time, and I love to teach but I have to admit. My confidence is sort of out the window. This semester has been awful so I haven't done much more than learn to juggle and I feel a bit out of practice, and my theory could use work.

So I thought to myself. Self I said. As a moderate goal I should get in 100 hours of fan practice before the festival.…

Practice Notes

[ I wonder if I should do one entry a week and add notes as comments. Thoughts? ]

Today I hooped for a bit while waiting on my landlady to visit. I had my blues dance playlist on and, since I was so discouraged yesterday, just let myself dance with my hoop. I got some good waist hooping in, as well as some off-body hand hooping (I can't wait for my new hoop materials to come in; my hoop is way too hard on my hands). And, finally, for the first time, I was able to do neck…

Practice Notes

It's been several days since I hooped. I got access to the Seeding classes last Wednesday, but only was just able to watch the first video. Waist Hooping. The most basic.

I've been playing with my hoop at home for a couple of years. I love the flow of it, and have no problem transitioning from core hooping to off-body hooping and isolations etc.

Apparently what I have problems with is the core hooping. I know I'm out of practice, and I know I'm coming off of an injury, but it's…

* Knee hurt a little, practiced after dinner and gave it a good stretch along with other stretches. It didn't hurt after stretching/warm up

Since my knee was hurting, I decided to do a pretty light practice. I was going to do primarily hand hooping, but my hoop is too big/heavy for a lot of hand work, so I scrapped that and decided to work on my off-direction hooping. Which is terrible.

It was a lot like learning to hoop again and reminded me of how terrible I was at the…

Practice Time :(

I've only been hooping for a ew weeks and I wish I had more time to practice :( I try to get at least an hour in a day but it's hard sometimes. Which is sad because I'm at home all day most o the time. Any of you other hoopers have small children?lol. I loe my son but he's just been so clingy lately , I think it's because I wasa working and not seeing him too much and I quit my job so now he just wants to spend as much time with me as possible. I got him a little hoop to play with so maybe…

I want to go to a hoop camp!

I've been working towards creating a hooping community in my home town. Its been a beautiful struggle, if you can imagine those two words fitting together.

Beautiful in that I make hoops and I take them everywhere I go and people love them. There is nothing that parallels the feeling of joy I get watching adults remember how to be play and watching children just do what children do naturally. I would do it all the time if I could. And this is where I get to the struggle.

As a…

XTREME URBAN HOOPING!

XTREME URBAN HOOPING: verb. The act of hoopdancing your heart out down a busy street in the city. Beyond just walking with your hoop or spinning it on your hand, XTREME URBAN HOOPDANCING calls for full out dancing all over your body while maneuvering around light poles, fire hydrants, and other people.

Haha- well it's not really XTREME, per se, but it's definitely much more challenging! Today was the…

Hooping my worries away!

Wow!  What a week it's been!  I hooped this morning for about thirty minutes and then I hooped this evening for about an hour, maybe more.  Hmm, I need more space in my living room I think.  Thanks to FireSandra's tutorial I now know a better way to hoop around my knees, but I need more space to practice.  Cleaning gnomes activate!  Haha, I wish!  :-D

Practice On

Alright, so I was up really late last night and am totally exhausted right now. :( Makes for more difficult hooping. But anyway, I had my first ever practice session that lasted for more than 5 minutes. Well, okay, I guess my last filmed session was nine minutes, but long sessions are diffiult for me. I just don't have the cario to practice for an extensive amount of time, but last night I had my first ever thirty minute practice session. :D It was awesome and I learned a…

Good Day Gone Bad

I set out on a new Assemblage project that seems to be taking on a life of it's one. I was outside working today for five hours straight and feeling awesome as I collected dead branches, planks, cinder blocks, bones, glass jars and tools. What brought this little escapade to an abrupt end was when I stepped on 1/2 an inch worth of shiny silver nail. I can now barely walk. And by that I mean I hop around on one foot and a cane. My life sucks right now. I don't know what's going to happen…

@ the park....two hoops?!

It was a beautiful day for February so I decided to venture out and do some public practice today at friendship park. It was a little bit windy, which threw my poly everywhere (in the middle of a boys football game, for example) but I didn't let it deter me.  I used poly 1 & 2 and I also used my other older hoops so I could get a little of an arm workout in.

There were a lot of people at the park today but as usual I didn't pay them any mind.  Some people would stop and watch but…

A month later

Well, it's been a month since I started hooping.  I can't believe it.  I've gone from, 'I suck'  to being able to keep the hoop up for several minutes at a time, floating a bit, halos, and hip hooping.  I've also made several of my own hoops including a water hoop.  (that takes some getting used to.)_I've gotten neck hooping down pretty well, too, but it doesn't go anywhere else... not to chest…

Introspection Within the Hoop

During this dark cycle of the year, we are usually inclined to follow our instincts to hibernate, a ritual lost over past millennia. But this ritual, that has been dismissed with the growing times, is not about hibernating in the physical term; it is about turning inward and observing ourselves. In winter our bodies tell us to slow down, enjoy every passing second, and take a deeper look at all things; those around us and within us. We can take this time to examine ourselves, our goals, and our…

hoops-a-plenty

I'm up to my eyeballs in hoops these days. Ringling called again and needs a rush on mini hoops for the clowns. I'm half way done with the order and hope to get there hoops in the mail on Friday. I love the frenzy, but I'm feeling a bit frantic about keeping track and getting it all done.

I had a great class tonight with my ladies of Allen. They are a great group of women. We did a lot of arm work tonight so my shoulders are bit sore. I'm trying to resist the urge to eat. Somehow…

finding me, in the hoop

I am still learning and finding my center, but I'm feeling more and more comfortable inside the hoop. I don't learn tricks as fast as I would like, but I'm practicing daily. I'm sure I will feel better in coming months.

I wish I could pinpoint when I really started hooping. everyone on here has a hoopaversary, If I was really keeping track I guess it would be when I received my LED hoop. when was that exactly? Late spring of 2010 I guess. I think I'm gonna pick June 6th as my start…

Hooping meets Meditation

I would like to offer a basic technique for a hooping meditation.

Meditation reduces stress, helps put your thoughts in order, restores energy, and connects you to your higher intentions. The benefits of meditation can be felt in as little as five minutes but for the best results try to set aside thirty minutes to an hour for this practice.

Find a quiet place where you can practice undisturbed, somewhere that you can relax. If you would like, stage the meditation area a…

Progress

I have been teaching myself chest/shoulder hooping & shimmying this weekend.

I think I got it!!!! It feels so good when you accomplish a goal!!!

Some things I have learned.

Closing your eyes, and feeling the hoop is way easier than trying to watch yourself, or just doing the movement.

If you can mimick someone's movement while they do it, you can probably do it.

My water hoop is easier to shimmy with, and chest hoop.

I have hooped for over 3hrs today! I feel…

Bruised

I have shoulder bruises!! I am teaching myself to chest/shoulder hoop....

attempting to anyways. Without much success.

I have watched lots of tutorials, and talked to Letisha...

I can do it occasionally, and only by accident.

I know it will come. I can do things now with my hoop that I was in awe of before.

I have always been a bad practicer...

of whatever...everything.

I can say I have been putting in a honest effort with this, and I am seeing results. It is…
