I have had many levels of hoop awakenings in my short 4 years since first being exposed to it.. Though I didn't actually pick up- a hoop for the first time nearly 2 years ago. When I first saw it at Bonnaroo of 07, I was so intrigued. I never saw the chance to try one at a vendor booth, nor did I ever see someone hooping with an extra unused hoop near by. So I was a fan. That was until one weekend my new friend Cassie invited me to a weekend up at her family's cabin. She hooped and had some extras at a party in the fall of 2008. From those 48 hours on, I was hooked. I bought my first 44 incher from her a week later and became emersed with the hoop since then.

Now I find myself teaching an ever expanding hoop class... And just today (yesterday techincally since i havent been able to sleep all night due to excitement), I was informed I was awarded Best New Workout in my regions magazine (which is published in 7 counties).

With that, I have been told I need insurance to participate in the award ceremony. I understand why they need it, and why I need it as well at this point. However, I have no income aside from hoop sales and the funds I receive from hoop class every week.. All together, it's barely enough to pay for gas and car insurance. Not only that, but I will also have to start paying my college loans back soon. They give you a 6 month grace period where you don't have to start making payments... but it's taking longer than that to find a steady job in this economy.

I'm also an unpaid intern, so no money and my time being taken there. Plus the economy... It's no wonder I can't find steady work!!

This is the opportunity of a life time, and I won't let money get in the way. I WILL find a way.

Congratulations on the award! How much time do you have between now and the ceremony to come up with the insurance, and how much is the insurance? Maybe if you were to raise your class fee a few dollars (with an explanation about the need for insurance coverage for both your benefit and your students' ), you might be able to come up with the funds. You could do a bake sale or a hoopathon or something to raise the cash too - make part of the proceeds go to your insurance fund and part to a local charity, maybe?

I'm just throwing out random thoughts. I'm sure you'll figure out something. :)

Thanks for the responses :-) I have made the decision to raise my class price. As of last week, my classes cost $5 a person. However starting next week, the price will be $10 a class. I am also offering the option to pay for class in bulk for a discount (3 classes = $25) I made sure to stress to my students that I didn't want to raise prices, but that I would be out of business if I didn't.

Can you run a weekend workshop perhaps? You can run the workshop a little longer and go more in depth than you would in a normal class, and go a little more in depth with your teachings. You can justify charging a bit more than a class, because people would learn more.

Congrats and good luck.
