yea. today is a bad hoop day. i've been working on my routine for the hooprama hoop troupe audition next sunday and I can't even get simple moves right today. I keep bumping the hoop into my leg or launching it into something nearby or dropping it....everything is just going wrong! Out of about 30 attempts or so to hoop to the song, I've successfully completed one. I'm so frustrated now, I don't even know if I still want to audition. I hate choreographing moves, so my routine only has 3 small sections of choreography but b/c I keep screwing up I'm afraid I'll end up doing stuff that's boring and not my style at all...the worst fear is putting all this work into it and not getting in. *sigh*

Bad days happen, inside and outside the circle. I've only seen you on video, but I think you're a fantastic hooper with a quick, unique style & charming smile. I think those traits will make your audition stand out, even if you are nervous and do "stuff that's boring." You have to try out, even if you feel discouraged today. My mom always told me, "If you don't try you won't make it" and I always thought that was a lame reason to persevere, but it's true. Even a botched audition is better than giving up.

We all have bad days-- unpredictably so in my experience-- tricks I've mastered long ago sometimes elude me repeatedly during a particular practice, for no discernible reason. It can be baffling & maddening. And I also know I can be self-conscious & sometimes freeze up when I feel I'm being judged, so maybe that's part of the reason for your off day. But on the other hand some of my best hooping grooves are when I'm with other hoopers... remember, it's a loving & inclusive community overall. And you are a beautiful, expressive, skilled hooper. And as I always tell myself when I venture out of my comfort zone (as for public speaking {shiver}) "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!" I find that sometimes the adrenaline rush of pure fear can give me a boost!

You'll be great! Bad Days suck but you rock and this way all the shitty parts are out of the way well before the audition! I think its so rad that you are auditioning for a hoop troupe! Best of luck to you!

Definitely audition. No matter what, you will come out with a new, awesome experience. If hooping was always easy it would be boring. Remember to have fun. Hoop for yourself, not for the judges or troupe. Breathe into sections of moves that are giving you trouble. Jam out to super feel good music before practicing your routine. Remember you are always your own worst critic!! Good luck.

Thank you guys, very very very much! tried a few more times and decided I needed to take the day off from hooping. So I made new hoops instead! Very meditative. I made one for my best friend since she has been wanting one forever and one for myself that I will use in my audition. B/c it's black, white & red, that makes my audition apparel choices that much easier :-) I'm going to just hoop out today and tonight and then practice the routine and see how I do. Thanks again for letting me vent!
