So over the last few months, I have been helping my old hoop instructor with with several gigs: birthday party's, open air events, etc. And as I become more integrated into her business, I have been struggling with idea of making sure I maintained my own identity as a hooper. So I felt it was really important that I establish my own name as a hooper, through which I could draw my costume, makeup, and style choices. This became especially important when she started offering solo gigs which she couldn't attend to me. This is such a great opportunity for me, but it is difficult to maintain balance between promoting myself and her business.

Anyway, as of yesterday I have decided on a name and "persona" to go with for my hooping work: The Hoop Fairy. Most of my costume choices I have made have been fairy related already, I'm small, and it rolls well off the tongue (probably because it sounds like tooth fairy!). I am super excited to start establishing my identity this way, and I'm even making a trade with an artist friend of mine, I give her hoops and she gives me a logo! There is such a feeling of security and purpose when you have a solid identity, and this will provide that for my hooping! Has anyone else had an experience like this? How did you guys pick your hooping names, if you have one?

I like yours!

I came up with mine one day while driving, it just kinda hit me: KaHoops. For some reason I was thinking about the word cahoots, and I subbed 'hoops' and changed it to a "K" since that is what my name begins with. And the word "ka" means 'fate' or 'destiny' in one of my fav book series, The Dark Tower by Stephen King....so from that, it can mean fate's hoops or hoop of fate or something...if you read the books, you'll understand that bit of rambling.

Anyways! I just use my name so far for id purposes on the web but once I do start performing or teaching I will utilize it more. It does make you feel as though you are distinct and individual when you have a hooping name though. :-) Good luck to you, Hoop Fairy!

KaHoops, that's so cute, I love it. It sort of reminds me of Kabluey or kaboom, but with a much more interesting meaning ;-).
