So this weekend I went to my first Hoop Path workshop in Chicago! It was such a great experience! Bein used to the small town livin I had a huge smack to the face when pulled into the public transportation journey for the first time lol! I know its embarrassing...im 25 and have never planed trips on a train or a bus! So I was really scared trying to get on the orange line....to the blue line..... to the bus stop and finally.............ahhhh the dance studio haha ;)

The first day of Hoop Path I missed the circle time from getting a little lost with the transfers :( Everything else was amazing! Even the stuff that I thought I already knew was shone in a different light and expanded on to the point where....even the old was new to me! Baxter has an amazing ability to speak with meaning and symbolism as if to gently pull your mind and body into understanding rather than cramming you with info and hoping youll sort it out correctly. He kinda reminds me of a wise grandfather telling stories to his grandchildren....subconsciously teaching them how to grow with plots of emotion, action, consequence, just experiences of all colors.

The second day was even more amazing....I made it on time ;) and I think this circle time was my favorite part of the whole weekend! Baxter shared stories of his past to explain who he is and what hoop path is about.....sometimes his voice would strain and come from deep in his throat.....almost like he was holding back in fear of overwhelming us with all his passion!! I even got a little choked up during some stories but I have never felt comfortable tearin up in public so I fought hard and held it in. Also, I now have a consistent amount of tiny low impact exercises to practice that are already making a huge impact on my connection to and from the hoop!

The third day was challenging and super fun! I learned soooooo much in this workshop!!! Anne is a great speaker :) Shes seems to take her time and find the perfect words to convey her thoughts. Just watching her move...slower and in person taught me so much. During the spinning session It felt like I was bursting full of every ones energy in the room....when we got done I was literally shaking!!!!! AMAZING! Spinning is my favorite hehe

Overall I learned the importance of expressing yourself with no inhibitions...As if to say "This is who I am! Take it or leave it! ;) At first I was afraid to open up during the blindfold exercises. I dont even know what I was afraid of! But their voices seemed to gently sooth my worries and encourage me to let go! This is more than a hoop workshop this is a life loving gathering! I am soo grateful :)

that sounds like a great experience - i've heard really good things about hoop path, and hope they come to the northeast soon. i'm curious - what kind of specific hooping things did you do/learn?

Thats deep......and I'm pretty deep myself. It sounds like you can come out of there on a higher level of hooping that you never thought exsisted. I can't wait to go. :-)

I totally agree with you about Baxter's method of teaching. He's so fantastic. Sometimes I wish I had him there to talk me out of bed in the morning, haha. :)

And I know what you mean about the blindfold! At first you're like, "I look like a total dork. Everyone's watching me and thinking, 'what a total dork'. I should check and make sure I'm doing what everyone else is." Which is silly, because a) NOBODY'S looking at you, they've all got blindfolds on! And b) if you do what everyone else is doing, then you're missing the point. And it's SO scary to just let go. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. But once you do, you can't stop! It's magical!
