Luckily I have enough room to practice in my apartment, but I only do it if I'm the only one in the living room.  Usually I use the field next to the complex or I go down to the river and practice.  I haven't been hooping long.  If I hoop outside I hoop when most people are at work or I have some other friends that are into hooping go with me.

walk to a local park. have you done a search for hoopers in your area? it's always a lot easier to forget people may be watching when you've got others there to be silly with you. Jut have fun with it,don't worry about what other people think. I was nervous to hoop in front of people at first, but i just said screw it. the first time i hooped in front of people it was at a friend's party in her back yard and i was nowhere near any good. and trust me i got some rude comments ( the party consisted mostly of marines) a lot omg are 7. but you can't get good enough to impress if you don't practice. and now some of those same guys are eating their words.lol.i'm still not great but i've had a few of them apologize after seeing my improvement, you have to start somewhere.
