The past four days have been something of a hulahoop-whirlwind. I got to spend this amazing weekend with an old friend (teh hooping-badass KymSpins), who used to hoop with me back in undergrad. It was wonderful getting to catch up and also kind of surreal to find what hooping has become for the both of us after three and a half years of flight time.

The weekend workshops were led by BaxterAnnRich, and Khan. All of whom introduced something unique and amazing to us each day. Having attended a variety of hoop workshops in the past, usually only a handfull of new techniques resonate within my practice. This time, though, I felt a connection with each of their hoop styles and patterns of movement.

One of the reasons I continue to attend Hoop Path events is that the moves which are taught are less trick-based and more flow-based. So frequently throughout each day there was a constant reminder that there is no ‘wrong way’ when dancing within the hoop. So much of what hooping is evolving into is through self-exploration. A key element stressed in the Hoop Path is that hoops aren’t solely a skill toy, but may be used as an instrument in finding meditative flow. It was refreshing being surrounded by others who pursue this in their own practice.

I now feel as though I have months (years?) worth of material to process and explore. I love that there are no limits when doing almost anything. I love that I will always have something to work on. I love feeling connected to something so strongly and that there are others who feel the same as I do.

Amazing Hoop Path workshop was amazing. Now, think will go and hoop some. As I do.

please check out my hooping tumblr for crazy amounts of photos from Hoop Path V. It's the right thing to do.

So great to read your impressions of HP5. You expressed so well what I love about the HoopPath approach to hoop dance. Thanks so much for bringing your beautiful energy to our Retreat.

thank you both!

beth, it was an amazing experience getting to feed off the energy of you and so many beautiful and talented hoopers that weekend. Looking forward to our next hoop encounter (HPVI, perhaps?).
