It'll be two weeks tomorrow since I picked up the minis and started Sandra's Mini Hooping Class. I am really enjoying them. My poor regular hoop has been a bit neglected, but not too much! It's hard to find hooping time during this busy holiday season. I'm actually looking forward to the doldrums of January and February when life is quieter. I'll be able to spend much more time hooping. I have yet to feel like I've actually "mastered" anything, but I am making progress! Am working on things from Session One and Session Two.

So far I've got a good handle on -

Keeping my planes straight while doing basic spinning.

Spinning the hoops forwards and backwards in same time and split time.

Going back and forth from same to split time quickly and smoothly.

Going in opposite directions in both same and split time.

Changing directions and timing going in opposite directions relatively quickly and smoothly.

Basic turning in forwards in both directions (to the right and to the left).

Basic Forward Weaving.

I'm "getting there" with -

Basic Backward Weaving

Forward Tuck Weaves - I can do them but not continuously. Well, I can do them continuously, but it's not very smooth -- yet!

Getting my planes leveled back out after moving them (for example, after coming out of a turn or coming out of weaving).

Basic turning in backwards to the right - I can do the individual arm movements required, and I'm working on doing them both at the same time!

Chase Weave w/right hand leading - just got this today!!

I haven't attempted the 3-beat weave or reels or anything. I've watched some of the videos in the other sessions, but I'm not ready yet. I'm trying to take things slow and really "get" things. I want to have a good foundation.

Minis are indeed frustrating, but there is something very soothing to me about them. Despite feeling frustration from time to time, I never get angry or stop a practice because I'm feeling pissy. Once I pick up those minis, I have a very, very hard time putting them down. I just want to keep twirling and twirling and twirling them! Love the minis!!

I got some mini hoops weeks ago but have, for some reason, been kind of hesitant to even start with them. It all seems so confusing and overwhelming and there's still so much to learn in my regular hoop. I commend you. It looks like you ARE making a lot of progress! Makes me want to give it a try...

I agree, I have minis, but I feel a lot of anxiety whenever I think about learning them, it seems really confusing to me as well! I just started multihooping and its overwhelming, I wish this stuff came naturally! Actually, I always go back to Sandras video "Love the Process" because I do love the feeling of acomplishment and hardwork, even if it does boggle my mind sometimes. Congrats on learning minis, that is so great! Post some videos soon, I would love to see your progress!

LOL!  You guys, I was nervous about starting minis too.  Especially when in the very first lesson in Sandra's class she says that mini hooping is hard.  In fact, I think she says it was the hardest thing for her to learn.  That's intimidating!  If Sandra thinks it's hard, what does that mean for the rest of us???  LOL!  And at first, it is.  It's amazing how challenging it can be to do two different things at one time.  Mini hooping is multi-tasking at it's best!  But, since I paid for the class . . . I plugged on.  It IS hard, but I find it hard in such a good way.  Like I said, practicing with minis is soothing to me for some reason.  If I've had a tough day, working with my minis actually often relaxes me more than working with just my regular hoop.  Not sure why that is.  It's frustrating, but for some reason the frustration doesn't usually get the best of me like it can with regular hooping.  I really encourage you to give it a try.  Sandra really teaches it well!

I second what Traci said! I made myself minis a while ago, but I feel like I don't want to lose progress on my regular hoop. Although it might help with my poi moves. Congrats on doing so well! I would love to be able to take one of Sandra's classes.

Allyssa, if you're doing poi already, mini hooping should come a bit easier for you.  On Sandra's advice, I made a pair of sock poi to practice with.  I don't really intend to pursue poi too much, but just playing around with them for a few days and finding some tutorials for basic poi moves  on the web really helped with minis.  I was struggling with getting down split time, but after doing it with the poi, I was easily able to get it with the hoops.  Obviously there are differences, and Sandra says the mini hoops are a bit more challenging than poi, but poi definitely helps with the minis!

Thanks for the advice!
