New Discovery - the poor-man's "LED" hoop

So I reeeeally wanted to buy an LED hoop for hooping at night as festivals... especially since I was going with friends to Electric Zoo festival this past weekend in New York. Several of my new friends from Vermont were coming down, and we all hoop-- in fact, that's how we met! I had my hoop at All Points West Festival at the beginning of August, and these new friends found me because of the hoop! I knew that Electric zoo wouldn't be a 'hoopy' festival (its more of a rave than a hippy festival!) but we were all excited to bring our hoops and jam in some really fun costumes. I was a hot pink cat on day 1 with fuzzy faux fur, and then day 2 i was my token character - rainbow brite.

Because I didn't have the money for an LED hoop, I got creative -- I used some extra electrical tape on an older hoop and taped glow sticks (12" bracelet size) on the outside of the hoop when it got dark.. it worked fantastic! There are some really cool pics (and a video which i'm hoping to post!) that show how it looks... the one i've posted on my site was my 'test run' and so it only has green glow sticks on it, but if i can post the video, it will show the rainbow glow sticks on the hoop.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share in case anyone else wanted to light up their hoop at night the cheap way!

Even though glow sticks are the "cheap way" to have a light-up hoop, I like the way they look... I have an LED hoop, but I also like using glow sticks as an alternative. It's just a different kind of light-up hoop!

*GASP!* That is a GREAT idea!!! I need to go get some glow sticks. I am camping this weekend and hooping in the forest with a glow hoop sounds pretty magical!

yeah! also, taping the bigger glow sticks, like, actual sticks, to the outside of the hoop mimics a firehoop, and that is a great way to get used to the balance and differences firehoops create. (and happy hoop day)
