Last weekend was nothing short of blissed out hoopmania. I got to learn from the amazing Baxter of HoopPath and his special guest teacher Brecken. This would have been happiness enough, but then I got to stay in the same house as them and actually get to know them a little. Ride in the backseat and listen to them talk to eachother about hooping while I tried not to be star struck. I remember when Danielle picked me up from the bus stop and en route to her house she said, "Baxter's hooping in my basement". My jaw dropped.

I really can't put into words what the workshop was like, but i guess that is the point of this blog... to try. When I first got to the Boulder Circus Center there were about 20 hoopers jammin out. I didn't know if I should stare (I'd never witnessed live hoopers that I hadn't personally taught myself) or join in. The music was great and I was in mental shock anyways so I hooped. Oh, right after I met Rainbow Michael, hello amazing!!

The HoopPath experience in general was full of bliss and self awakening. Baxter doesn't just teach, he leads you toward your own inspiration. I hooped in ways that I had never hooped before. And not because he said "do it like this", but because he awakened me to what I was capable of. During one of the "blind" exercises, I cried under my bandana. Now I know what it's like to hoop on cloud nine.

Brecken is adorable. She is shy and insecure when people are watching her. It's hard to believe but I'm not sure that she realizes how talented she is. I was lucky enough to be able to hoop with her and Danielle in Denver while waiting for the bus and some kid came up to us and filmed for awhile with his phone. He was throwing lots of compliments and asked if he could post the video on youtube.com. I chuckled when he said he'd ask his friends who they thought was the best out of us three. Duh, no contest.

If you just want to learn tricks and/or you are new to hooping, I don't think HoopPath is for you. I only learned a coulpe new tricks and I would have been frustrated had I not known how to shoulder hoop already. BUT, if you feel like you are spinning around in the center of God's heart when you are hooping you will love their workshops. It's a spiritual experience that will forever change the way you connect with the hoop.

Wow, I think you really captured what being in a HoopPath workshop is like quite well. I get to take one or two HP classes a week (in addition to community jams) and I found your words very moving and your description dead-on. It's always so beautiful to read someone else's experience. Thanks for sharing.

A friend of mine is bringing Baxter soon to Wisconsin... in May I believe. I can hardly wait to learn from Baxter! Your blog makes it sound like something that is really interesting to me. :)

By shoulder hooping... you mean hooping at the chest correct?
