I never thought I'd be teaching, and also so soon (~6 months) but somehow I now have a volunteer position teaching hoopdance to highschool kids in the juggling club!  As mentioned in my previous journal, my troupe director "gave" me three hyper adhd 13 year old girls to teach hoop coreography to.  My first session with them went really well!  I wasn't even that nervous because they are just little derpy kids to me and also, I seemed to have luck compared to other adults getting them to focus.  They are really interested in the hoops.  Two of them picked it up really really fast and had no trouble learning the vortex, the helicopter, the weave, and J throws in less than an hour.  The third is a little clutzy and she's gonna have to work harder to pick up the tricks.  But then so am I.... I have absolutely no experience in designing routines and feel kind of lost as to how to fill up the whole 2 minutes with synchronized hooping.

What a wonderful opportunity to share and learn! I'd be a bit lost trying to come up with a routine too.. I think I would "cheat" a little by watching the hell out of a whole bunch of youtube hoopers showing off their flow, and look for combinations that they do that use the moves that yall have learned, and how they transition into each one.

Good luck! I love that you're bringing hooping to the young ones! They are pretty amazing, huh? My daughter is always just flooring me with the stuff that she just comes up with and does. It has been so good for her in so many ways. Mostly exercise, coordination and self confidence. Kudos!
