Soooooo...the demo was bright and early this morning and I went, sick and all(and was 20 min. early **gold star for me**). I sounded so horrible that the gym director actually asked me if i still wanted to do it. HA , of course!!!! I didnt feel that dropping the ball right now would be good for my future with hooping, and teaching classes and growing my own community of lovelies here in NOLA...hoopers that is. It was FREEZING (well, for here in the south) and we were doing the demo outside because this particular location of the gym didnt have an indoor space (but thats okay cause the one i'm gonna be teaching at does **BONUS**). I wasnt so sure that many people would actually show because of the weather, i know if i could have crawled back in the bed i would've. So,10 of the 20 people that said they were interested showed! I thought i would be nervous but it was MUCH more casual than the scenario i had going in my head. the girls that showed were very sweet and excited....i taught several people who said they "just couldnt" (at least how to keep it on their waist and a little bit of hand hooping) and even got one of the gym managers up there...he was funny! Everyone was so busy trying to get that under control that i didnt even have to end up "performing" by myself. I prob. would've except everyone was getting colder and colder and just wanted to go in (an hour was sufficient for what we did though). 7 of the 10 that came put their name on the sign up for the class, and i gave them all my new handy-dandy business cards( thank you vistaprint). I couldve sold some hoops and i thought i made it clear that they were for sale BUUUUT i just wasnt really down for "selling my wares" today....having to convince people to do anything was really hard as sick as i have been. in the end, we all had fun, and i have 7 people in my brand spankin' new beginners hoop class. I must say, I'm kinda proud. I'm not normally very good at this sort of thing, but this is something i am passionate about.....thank God i finally found something. Oh yeah! AND they payed me for today which i totally wasnt expecting! YAY! okay, so now I have to ask for MORE help....i know i know, i'm so needy :) I wanted to see if any of you had any pointers for my actual classes....they are supposed to be a "workout" so just playing and dancing wont do. I have a basic structure but any suggestions are always welcome. I feel like people may get bored.....hmmmmm, we shall see.
a couple of thank you's from me to some people.....
thank you Andrea for believing in me and making me do this (my friend that got me the space at her gym)
thank you to Wes and Scott and Anytime Fitness for being so excited about a new class at their gym and welcoming me!
thank you Safire for lessening my madness greatly in the last few hours (oh yeah, and for teaching me EVERYTHING I KNOW)
and thanks to all of you guys in Hoop City....I am so happy to be part of such an incredible uprising of beautiful souls...which leads me back to Safire.....thank you again and again for introducing me to my passion.
