Been spending the last month at the Casa de artes y circo contemporaneo in Coyoacan Mexico, with Brecken teaching workshops and training. This is the night after our last class. What I love most is what comes naturally and what is impulse, like I'm discovering dance. So this is entirely improv, and as you can tell, it was night (hence shite quality...sorry), so I had headphones in and had to lay over music. Personally this month was majorly challenging, while I feel movement and geometry and my reflexes come naturally, teaching was definitely a test of my kinetic and spatial knowledge and awareness. Especially to teach, you cannot simply do the move, it must be honed and deeply understood to be a teachable technique (something I don't usually practice as I find improv so enriching). Working with Brecken is a great example of the deepening approach, which is far more intricate than I think can be imagined, it's based in reflex and natural pathways but has been honed to unbelievable heights. I have the reflexes and I too have the perceptive ability to deepen them. Couldn't have had this without the amazing people who run this space, the amazing group who took our classes, and an amazing partner and friend to grow with. Mustering up my balls helped too. Future focus: To listen to my reflexes and deepen my understanding of them so I may better communicate, connect and share. Thank you Thank you Thank you to everyone. So much love.
Music is Octopod Set called "Hydrophilic" --download for free on his Soundcloud!
The hoop is Merengue (hula hups pro) -you can find them on Facebook, it's collapsible 34 in. that is black light reactive, pretty bad ass hoop if I do say so.
