I'm quite surprised your professor didn't accept hoop dancing as art. I don't think that all half-naked masked women are beautiful, but most importantly I don't think that a woman must wear either a mask or little else to be beautiful. A lot of dances that I've seen incorporate the same moves in a very similar style. But the flailing nature of this piece really sets it apart. I'm happy to hear that you stuck to your guns on this. As Oscar Wilde once said, "Don't let school get in the way of your education" :)

Well in some respects that is part of my intentions. The project this piece was a part of was aimed at answering 2 questions, what is art? and what is beautiful? ...is hoop dancing art? and is a half dressed masked women beautiful? My professor said no to both, but I believe they are and that conforming to certain standards whether they be entrusted by society or your art professor is going against what art itself really is.

In some parts it seems as though you are a prisoner to the hoop. Now your interpretations and the intended significance of the piece may be very different than my own. However I was just reminded of the idea of the person who is prisoner to their pleasures and indulgences.
